Ten Special Years

Posted by Tony & Cheri on October 11, 2007

Sorry we haven’t been posting much lately. We know a lot of you want to know what’s happening in Playa del Carmen and Mahahual. Unfortunately Tony had another bout with dengue and was very sick for a long time. We’ve also been busy with the Mahahual relief drive, selling our place in Paamul and a trip back to San Francisco to re-rent our little home there. Don’t worry; we’ll be posting updates on Playa and Mahahual very soon. However, before we get to work on those blog updates, we wanted to share a personal moment with our friends and family on this blog.

Ten years ago today we were married in the little church in our neighborhood in San Francisco, after which all of our friends and family paraded the several blocks to our house where friends prepared a dinner of turkeys and hams they cooked themselves. People danced on the deck in the backyard and helped themselves to drinks from the margarita machine. Some people have told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to.

Today was a little quieter but no less special. We spent our tenth anniversary on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. We have real affection for the area, as we used to have a ski cabin here and always loved to get away to the mountains. We hadn’t been here in five or six years, so it was a little like coming home.

We are staying at the Sunnyside Lodge. Our room looks out over the lake, and last night there was a star outside of our room bright enough to cast a reflection in the still waters of Lake Tahoe. It was almost like a full moon. The air is cold and crisp, and you can still see signs of the early snow fall which happened a few days ago. The air is filled with the fragrance of pine and wood smoke.

This morning we went down to the Eagle Lake trailhead near Emerald Bay. We hiked up into the mountains, and when we had a clear view of Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe beyond, we once again exchanged rings and vows to love each other forever.

Tomorrow we return to San Francisco where we will join a celebration with our friends Jan and Eric for their wedding anniversary. Saturday we’ll have dinner with our son Chris and then Sunday it’s home again to Mexico to start getting ready for the holiday season. It will be good to be home.
