Steve, if you're still there and find yourself near the Hacienda Vista Real Hotel/Spa (right near where I stayed last month), there's a great little place next to a convience store on the same road. I know, sounds confusing, but the food was way better than a few of the pricy places we ate at on 5th Ave. Grab a cab, tell them to take you to Hacienda and keep your eyes open. It's on the left, a block or so before the hotel :)

Hope you're enjoying your trip.

Good to hear that everyone has enjoyed there trip. We leave 5/23 and are looking for a few recommendations for good food at reasonable prices in Playa Del Carmen.

We are staying at a time share a little north but anticipate spending time in Playa. Also looking for a beach that is not commercial with sandy entry.

We will stop by and have a drink at the Luna Blue and know it is closed Sunday.

I just returned from Playa Del Carmen two days ago. Yes, everything was open, with the exception of Coco Bongo, the large nightclub in town. Curiously, the Luna Blue bar was closed the night we went by (what happened?). We stayed in a friend's condo, but we visited a local resort everyday for the food/drinks/beach, and they were taking every precaution to avoid getting people sick--requiring guests to use purell when entering the restuarants, serving you at the buffet instead of self-serve, etc. The grocery store we stopped at had all employees handling food in masks and gloves. The weather was perfect, and there were tourists everywhere, just not as many. I'd say go and enjoy! No one in our group has felt sick since we returned.

Also while you are there, go see the Peanut Pet Shelter and find out about Coco's Cat Rescue. Dog and cat rescues also take donations on line. In Mexico, not very many people donate to animals. They need your help. Great people in a Great place helping animals.
