Obama (un)Official Inaugural Ball…South of the Border
If you’re a regular reader of our blog, you can probably guess that we’re pretty excited about the upcoming inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States of America. And even if you’re not a Democrat, there are still plenty of reasons to celebrate. It’s a new day, the election process in our native country still beats anything else around, and the election of Obama is evidence that America can and does work through problems like racial prejudice.
And what the heck, nobody knows how to party like the Democratic Party, so come on by, grab a drink and get ready to enjoy a celebration that will probably last for the next four years.
The actual swearing in of the President will be around 11:00 am Playa del Carmen time. The Luna Blue Bar will open at 2:00, the party will go from 7:00-11:00 pm, and the music will start around 7:30. But feel free to come earlier and even bring your laptop. We will have free wireless in the bar and you can watch the day’s events on the internet.
We will have…
|..Patriotic (and other) musical selections by famous American singer/songwriter Chris Bolister
(Chris is actually British, but for this one day he’s going to pretend to be American.)
…Red, white & blue decorations
…American flags (if any visitors bring us some–they’re a little hard to find down here)
…American flag bikinis (Tony’s hoping!)
…Red, white & blue jello shots ($1 each – proceeds to the Peanut Pet Shelter)
…Obama Girl Bar Dancing Contest (It’s not a “ball” unless there’s dancing. And, there will be prizes!)
…Our famous cheeseburgers, supersized & renamed “Hope Burgers”
…A toast to the health and happiness of the new President
…“Obama’s Mama’s Apple Pie,” the rum drink special of the night–(since there’s nothing more American than apple pie)
…Free shot for anyone wearing an Obama button, shirt, hat or thong
…An outpouring of pride in America and a complete absence of partisan squabbling…for tonight only!!!!!
Everyone welcome, even unrepentent Republicans!
The official Inaugural Ball requires black tie and evening gown. Our Inaugural Ball dress code is a little less formal. We suggest the following types of attire:
And here’s the Official (Un)Official poster we’ll be putting up around town tomorrow to advertise the event.
We hope to see you there!!!
